WFFM Captcha Required Field Issue

This is a quick blog post related to WFFM captcha field, in which will explain to you an issue that might appear in your site while upgrading from older version to newer one, and we are switching from the using captcha version 1 to captcha version 2.

What is the problem?

If you upgrading your site from lets Sitecore 7 to Sitecore 8 you will notice that the captcha field will be changed from version one to version 2 from the enter text format to select some images format, in version 1 you may need to select this field as a required field as you can see form the following screenshot:

BUT when upgrading you will see that the field will be changed to new way in which user needs to select images from a group of images based on some question, in this case there is no field to fill and here what the issue appears, see the following screenshot to see who the new field look like?

So what is the solution?

The solution for this issue require two workaround steps:

  •  Uncheck the required checkbox for the captcha field noticing that the form will still validate this field.
  • Hide the required functionality for the captcha field navigate to the /sitecore/system/Modules/Web Forms for Marketers/Settings/Field Types/Complex/Captcha item and uncheck the required option - this will remove possibility to mark captcha as required in the Form Designer.
You can follow up on the update for this issue using 75619 reference number

Hope it will help someone.
